For Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano, the raid that led to the death of 15 people including Mayor Parojinog in Ozamis City “looks like a massacre. “
Alejano, an opposition lawmaker and long time critic of the President,
wants an investigation into the incident because from how it looks now, it does look like a massacre.
sa akin magiging unfir din sa ating PNP kungdi natin makita ang lahat pero initially it looks like that…a massacre”
Alejano notres that the operation appears to be problematic and remeiniscent of what happened in the death of Albuera Mayor Rolando Espinosa.
Having said that, Alejano also recognizes that the Parojinogs had to be held accountable.
Alejano points out that the goverment is under pressure to bring in big fish but he hopes it won’t come at the expense of democratic institutions.
Alejano isnt that impressed with the raid that led to the death of 15 people including Mayor Parojinog in Ozamis City.
In a statement, Alejano said, “the once considered untouchables in Ozamis were made to account for the countless crimes that they have committed in the past. Something that our authorities must have done long time ago. The fruits of their crimes have allowed them to dominate local politics for a long time in Misamis Occidental. This is one I count as big fish in the war of drugs of this administration.”
Alejano however hastens to add that, “On the other hand, the raid was highly suspicious. Reminiscent of what happened to Albuera, Leyte Mayor Espinosa some months back. “Medyo pinu-pinohin naman ang operations.” While it may look like a success on the surface like the thousands killed under the war on drugs, its impact to the due process of law, human rights, and professionalism of the PNP can not be underestimated. “
Alejano stresses that while he supports the elimination of illicit drugs in the country, he also wants the strengthening of democratic institutions and democratic processes in the country. “This has long term implications to our democracy way beyond the term of President Duterte.”
