House Committee on Good Government Chairman Johnny Pimentel believes Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos may have violated some laws in the use of provincial excise tax funds.

his committee is still conducting an invetsugation which was called by Marcos’ provincial political rival, House Majority Leader Rodolfo Farinas. “she is liable she is the approving authority.

there were some laws that were violated.”

Pimentel talked to the media after Marcos faced the committee for the first time. Marcos is expected back at the committee on August 9.

The same committee had detained 6 provincial officials for failing to answer questions on the transactions being investigated. the 6 were released today after they finally answered questions.

Pimentel said, “upon the motion of majority leader cong rudy farinas… i hopefully once everything will be ready they will be released by the end of this afternoon.”

The 6 are: Pedro Agcaoili, Provincial Planning and Development Office chairperson: Josephine Calajate, provincial treasurer; Eden Battulayan, provincial accountant; Encarnacion Gaor, Provincial Treasurer’s Office staff; Genedine Jambaro, Provincial Treasurer’s Office staff; Evangeline Tabulog, provincial budget officer.”

Pimentel says he ordered that the 6 officials be subjected to a medical check up and a medical certificate be issued so that they can avoid accusations that the 6 were tortured in detention.

“i instructed general detabali to conduct a medical check up so that there will be a medical cetrtfiicate that they will be released in good medical condition.”

Pimentel said the 5 were released because they finally cooperated, “finally after 5 hearings the 6 officials answered the questions from the committee… the committee was satisfied

they were able to remember all the transactions…inamin na po nila sino bumili, sino nagbayad”

Pimentel however explained that the release of the 6 does not mean they are excused from the next hearings. “i want to make it clear that the releas eof the 6 officiald oes not mean we are already terminating the proceedings we will have another hearing on august 9 I thank Gov marcos for attending the hearing”

Marcos also apologized for claiming that P100 was circulated by the LP so that the committee will detain Marcos Pimentel said. “Gov marcos apologized for the fake news na may nirelease pong 100M na binigay ng LP sa miyembro ng kumitiba its very clear she withdrew the statement yung issue na po yun ay klaro na po we might also review the utilization of RA 7171”

“I withdraw the accusation that P100 million circulated…Hindi po totoo iyon at ako ay nagpapaumanhin kung nasaktan ko ang members ng Congress (That’s not true and I apologize if I hurt members of Congress),” said Marcos, who faced the congressional panel looking into alleged anomalous purchase of vehicles worth P66.45 million using funds from the tobacco excise tax.

At the hearing, Deputy Speaker Romero Federico Quimbo (Liberal Party, 2nd District) asked the eldest daughter of the late dictator about the alleged P100 million and to name her source of information.

“The party does not have P100 million for this,” Quimbo said.

Ang pag-aakusa ng katiwalian ay hindi na bago sa pamilya ko at nakikita naman natin na tuloy-tuloy pa rin kaya (Accusations of corruption are not new to my family and we can see that it continues),” Marcos said.

To which, Quimbo replied: “Naiintindihan ko po kaya kami rin po ay wag nyong babahiran ng dungis (I understand, that’s why you should also not taint us).”

interviewed before the hearing, Marcos said she came to show respect. “

wala naman tayong panalo sa kongreso teritoryo nila pero syempre respeto sa subpoena at pagkakataon na rin na magsalita”

after the hearing, Marcos thanked the committee for releasing the 6 “marami pong saamat

Marcos also thanked former senate president enrile for acting as her lawyer. “nagpapasalamat rin ako kay SPJPE palibhasa beterano siya sa gulong ganito
