House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez is eyeing the appointment of officers in charge in barangays should Congress be able to postpone the 2017 barangay elections.

Alvarez told radio DZMM earlier that postponing tge elections set this October is a request of the President.” suportado po namin yung Pangulo diyan Ted ano, dahil nga ang naging rason kung bakit ayaw niyang ituloy yung barangay election dahil hindi pa nalilinis totally yung mga barangay officials na kung saan ito ay kasama doon sa illegal drugs, so ang teorya ng ating Pangulo kung magkaka-eleksyon tayo, sila yung may pera, sila pa rin yung mananalo. So ang mangyayari dito Ted, ipo-postpone namin yung barangay election at dun sa hindi na puwedeng holdover so mag-appoint na lang ng OIC, maybe DILG.”

Alvarez explained that the OIC’s can stay in office till an election is held.” Until such time na we will call for an election. Sinasabi namin diyan Ted, kasi ito ang bansa na maya’t-maya eleksyon, bakit hindi na lang puwedeng isabay iyan doon sa local elections? Kasi yung gastos ba ng gobyerno?”

Alvarez doesnt see the Senate posing major obstacles to the proposal.” Mukhang wala naman pong problema Ted, at naka-usap ko si SP kagabi at sabi ko ay medyo kailangan talagang i-postpone natin yung Barangay election.”

Alvarez says the President will be asked to certify the bill as urgent, so that it can be fast tracked in the legislative mill.
