Acclaimed film maker Brillante Mendoza is back at the helm of the TV direction of President Rodrigo Duterte’s State of the Nation Address.
Mendoza held a walk through at the Batasan Pambansa plenary hall today, a week before the President’s speech. “the whole day nagocular kami ngayon kasama ko yung mga taga PCO
basically yung mga placement ng mga camera diniscuss namin ngayon tapos yung mga pwede ko pa iadd doon sa ginawa ko last year saka yung sa lighting din pinagusapan namin we try to improve on what we did last year “
Mendoza says despite criticisms from last year’s direction of the speech, which featured dramatic lighting and worm’s eye view shots of the President delivering his report to the Nation, the country will be seeing more of the same plus a few changes. “di naman completely iiwasan siguro we will just try to improve kung ano yung mga magandang nagawa last year but but i always take criticisms naman in a positive way so wala akong prublema doon for as long as alam kong di na siya nakakadistract yung directions ko sa SONA yun ang importante”
An innovation this year according to Mendoza is that the speech will be accompanied by black and white photographs of the president’s accomplishments in his first year in office. “meron kaming papakita kami unlike before completely siya lang may papakita kami na mga photographs. not exactly AVP btu mote or less acomplishments niya in photograph i was suggesting black and white”
Mendoza is also prepared for anything since the president is known for going off script. “ill capture it kasi yun siya capture natin kung ano yung nangyayari yung sa totoong buhay ginagawa niya i wouldnt deviate from what he used to do kasi yun siya.”
For Mendoza, what is important is that the people get exactly the president’s messge without his direction being distracting. Mendoza says a rehearsal is scheduled this week though he is unsure if the President will be in it.
Mendoza says his work is probono. “pro bono as usual di lang kasi sa naniniwala ako mga advocacy ng president kungdi para sa bayan yun ang pinakaimportante basta gusto ko yung ginagawa ko i will do it for the country”
