Vice-President Leno Robredo suffers declines in her survey ratings in Mindanao and Class ABC though nationally, The Approval and Trust ratings of the Vice-President, Senate President Koko Pimentel House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez and Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno remained generally unchanged in March 2017 according to the latest Pulse Asia Survey from March 15-20 2017
Pulse Asia Research Director Ana Tabunda points out that Robredo suffered double digit declines in Mindanao and Class ABC. “sa pangkalahatan wala ngang gumalaw sa buong Plipinas yung kaniyang approval or trust pero kung susuriin natin sa ibang specific areas and grouos may double digit slide sa approval niya sa mindanao na 11 points na kung 13 points yan sasabihin na namin significant yan pero malaki na rin ang 11 points siguro significant yan hindi sa 95% confidence pero baka sa 92 90% na confidence”
Nationally, 58% approved of Robredo in March compared to 62% in December, but she declined 11 points in Mindanao and 10 points in Class ABC. Robredo also suffered a 15 point increase in her disapproval rating in Mindanao.
Nationally, 56% said they trusted Robredo in March compared to 58% in Decemer. She posted a 21 point gain in her distrust rating in Class ABC.
The explanation: the opinions of these subgroupings may have been swayed by her statement criticizng the war on Drugs before the United Nations, as well as the looming impeachment case against her and the differences between the President and Vice-President. “siguro nga kasi ito na yung maaring itoy dahil sa video sa UN commission may nasabi si VP Leni maarin din yung sa iba nakikita nila na yung charges ng sa impeachment case against her nakikita nila lumalawak yung pagkahiwalay ng presidente at bise presidente so maaring yun yung mga issues.”
Tabunda doesnt seem surprised that Robredo’s numbers in Mindanao suffered, since it is the President’s bailiwick.”tingin ko kunektado yun dahil ng ang sinusuportahan talaga ng Mindanao ay ang presidente sumusuporta ang mindanao sa cabinet to the extent may kumpiyansa pa si presidente sa cabinet members”
The survey occurred amid the filing of an impeachment case against President Duterte, the testimony of SPO3 Arturo Lascanas on extra judicial killings and Robredo’s statement to the United Nation
The country’s top 3 officials remained appreciated and trusted by a majority of the 1200 respondents nationwide.
However Duterte enjoyed an advantage of about 20 points in terms of his approval and trust ratings. Duterte enjoys an approval rating of 78, undecided at 15 and disapproval at 7 nationally. Robredo has an approval rating of 58, undecide at 25 and disapproval at 16—-the highest among the top officials of government. Pimentel’s approval rating is 55, undecided at 35 and disapproval at 8, Alvarez has an approval rating of 40, undecided at 41 and disapproval at 14, while Sereno has an approval rating of 42, undecided at 41 and disapproval at 11.
Nationally, these officials saw single digit movements from their ratings in december.
in terms of trust ratings, 76% said they have big trust on duterte, 18% undecided at 5% small or no trust, 56% said they have big trust on Robredo, 28% undecided at 16% with small or no trust—-the biggest among the top officials.
51% said they had big trust in Pimentel, 39% undecided and 8% with small or no trust. 37% said they had big trust in alvarez, 44% undecided at 15% said they had small or no trust. 40% said they had big trust in Sereno, 43% undecided and 12% with small or no trust. Similarly there were only single digit declines in the national ratings of these officials.
Tabunda inst surprised that Duterte’s survey numbers are better than Alvarez’s or Sereno’s because these positions hardly undergo scrutiny. “hindi naman nakakagulat malayo kaniyang operformance and trust ratings sa chief justice sa house speaker 2 opisyal na ito kadalasan di masyadong namomonitor ng mga kababayan ang ginagawa nila”
in the previous administration, the ratings of President Noynoy Aquino and Vice-President Jejomar Binay were not too far apart, unlike the ratings of duterte and Robredo. Tabunda believes this is because unlike Aquino and Binay, Duterte and Robredo have different circumstances. Binay had a better winning margin over his eletcion rival than Robredo’s margin over her own election rival. Aquino and Binay also got along, unlike Duterte and Robredo.
The margin of error for this survey is +-3% at the 95% confidence level.
